LONDON (AFP) - At least two people died Friday when a light aircraft crashed onto a major railway line in Britain, causing severe disruption to train services, police said.

The single engine propeller plane came down yards from the track itself after hitting power lines above the main West Coast rail line between Rugeley and Stafford in central England.
The almost disintegrated wreckage of the plane was strewn next to the tracks, television footage showed. The aircraft was believed to be a Piper Cherokee registered to a 59-year-old man from the same region.
British Transport Police said at least two people had died.
""Examination of the scene will continue and a further fatality or fatalities cannot be ruled out at this stage,"" said a spokesman.
A witness described the plane coming down. ""I heard the plane, I looked up, and suddenly it just turned and went straight down like a stunt plane,"" said Derek Higgott, 49, who lives nearby.
""There was a huge thud and black smoke. You could feel the vibration from it and a huge flock of birds all took off.""
The crash caused long delays on the busy rail route between London and Manchester in northwest England. Rush-hour services from London's Euston Station to Liverpool, Birmingham and Glasgow were all cancelled.
